Africa is considered by many as the final frontier of surf exploration with thousands of km’s of untouched coastline waiting to be found. Who better to send on a mission to tap into some of that undiscovered potential than Kepa Acero. The Basque surfer is a modern day explorer and Google Earth expert who has dedicated much of his surfing career to finding new waves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kepa was joined by fellow European chargers Miguel Blanco and Naxto Gonzalez. Their adventure forms the basis of Oxbow’s latest short film ‘Surfing the Red Island’. Here’s what they had to say about the edit:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“This African island is packing 6,000 km of coastline – pretty much a dream playground for wave hunters. Basque surfer Kepa Acero had heard plenty of stories about empty lineups, perfect peeling waves and reefs that can handle serious size. So when a solid swell popped up on the charts, he made the call with two full-send chargers- his basque buddy Natxo Gonzalez and Portuguese ripper Miguel Blanco. Together, they scored dreamy waves and soaked up a culture just as rich as the surf.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
